Building Resilience: What Can Communities Do?
I’m happy to announce my inclusion in the forthcoming book, The Post Carbon Reader: Managing the 21st Century’s Sustainability Crises. My chapter, “Building Resilience: What Can Communities Do” introduces the Transition concept to a wider audience of concerned readers, argues for resilience as the ‘new sustainability’ and offers a snapshot of where Transition needs to go in the years ahead. As a preview of the book, a PDF of my contribution is available here.
Along with my chapter, The Post Carbon Reader explores key drivers shaping the 21st century, from renewable energy and urban agriculture to social justice and systems resilience. The book features a number of important thinkers and activists, most of whom are my peers at the Post Carbon Institute: Bill McKibben, Wes Jackson, Sandra Postel, Richard Heinberg, David Orr, Stephanie Mills, Michael Shuman, Erika Allen and Richard Douthwaite, among others.
De Post Carbon Institute
I’m excited about the Reader as it showcases many aspects and challenges of the Transition movement, tying it to the knowledge and efforts of my colleagues at Post Carbon Institute , an international think tank dedicated to the transition to a more resilient, equitable and sustainable world.
The Post Carbon Reader will be available in October 2010 from Watershed Media. The distributor, University of California Press, is providing a 20% pre-order discount to my network. Simply visit this link and enter pre-order discount code 10M9071.
I hope you enjoy what I’ve written and find it engaging enough to share with your friends and colleagues.
